Swing Dance Lessons with Dave & Tam
Dave & Tam are reviving swing dance lessons for 2022 as an ongoing fundraiser for GBT. ALL tuition fees will go to Gaslight Baker Theatre. We will be starting with Beginner East Coast Swing, (sometimes called Jitterbug) in a FOUR week series at Gaslight Baker Theatre. Class size are limited. And we will be dancing around existing sets on the historic stage in the 100 year old building.
About Tam & Dave
Tam & Dave have been dancing and teaching swing on and off for twenty years. (Dave was an active duty sailor in the US Navy so their offerings were sporadic). In the height of the neoswing movement of the 1990s, they were among the first Lindy Hoppers in Phoenix, AZ, and later one of the few to first teach Lindy Hop in San Diego, CA. They have appeared on television, taught to groups as large as 200, and have danced across the US and many places in the world, taking private lessons from the top dancers of that time. They are blessed to have taken multiple workshops with Frankie Manning and Norma Miller. Their focus is on 1940s style Lindy Hop as seen in Hollywood movies where they share their passion of vintage style and big band music is prevalent.

Beginning 6-Count Swing You will learn:
- Lead and Follow techniques (compression, tension, posture, etc)
- Musicality
- syncopation
- Six counts basic pattern
- 6-count turn
- Trade places Turn

Lindy Basic You will learn:
- Lead and Follow techniques (compression, tension, posture, etc)
- Musicality
- syncopation
- Basic 8-count Swing Out
- Swing-out styling variations (swivels/kick-ball-change)
- Swing out variations
- Send-out
- Pass-by
- Six counts
- Eight counts
- Charleston
Learners must sign up in pairs. One person will learn the lead footwork, one person will learn the follow footwork. Be prepared to change partners throughout the lesson. Same sex couple are welcome. Everyone will dance with everyone at some point during the class. You must be 12 or older to take lessons, parents must be present if student under the age of 14, but need not take the lesson. (minors are the only ones who need to fill out the AGE field on the form below). GBT sells sodas, waters, and snacks and offers free beer & wine. Outside food/snacks are allowed!
Patrons are free to watch and hang out, but only those signed up and paid can participate in class. There will be open dancing afterwards.
